WELL, HOW DID I GET HERE?

If I had to point fingers of course I'd have to blame Dylan, but I was ripe before his music forever changed my life.

I've written a thousand songs, starved, played on the street, played to the crowd, survived band explosions, self-implosions, and have had my heart broken, dreams crushed and soul thinned all over the place chasing that perfection of Mr. Tambourine Man -- and I wouldn't trade a minute of it.

When R.E.M. made the leap from Reckoning to Fables, I followed.  Peter Gabriel, James Brown, Paul Simon, Scott Weiland, Bruce Springsteen.

I'VE TRIED SLEEPING

While uploading to Spotify, I learned of five other Charlie Edwards acts out there not hurting anybody.  Rather than go Highlander on them, I'VE TRIED SLEEPING was born.

This record is a 10 song whole meant to be listened to in its entirety at loud volume.  The songs will take you somewhere if you let them.  Hit play on the player at the bottom of the screen and try to make it through the last two, they bottom out.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO

My five-piece BAMF band wants to make more music.  You can help us to realize this dream.

01  Flying High Anyway

If you go back in time don't mess with your former self
In the zombie apocalypse aim for the head
You've got to run got to fly like your life depends on it
Don't get caught lying to yourself
Or the man will come and get you
Lock you down deep in suburbia

Your love's got me flying high above the day
Your love's got me flying high anyway

The past comes in and out of focus
Got to part this sea somehow like Moses
When I close my eyes I can hear their voices
And on the count of three
You'll snap your fingers once

This crack in the windshield is growing but let's wait another day
Did you say less is more or more is more or more is less yesterday
You've got to run got to fly like your life depends on it
Don't get caught lying to yourself
Or the man will come and get you
Lock you down deep in suburbia

Your love's got me flying high above the day
Your love's got me flying high anyway
Your love's got me flying high above the day
Your love's got me flying high anyway

02  Not Talking Squatch

Falling faster than building seven came down
Now they're eating their own
He waves his arms around
Lines his pockets pushing podcast gold
Sweating dye
Rudy, did you know

Was it was an inside job
Were you on the inside

I'm not talking squatch or if we landed on the moon
I just can't believe as the years roll by and by
That not one person from the demolition team
With a heavy conscience hasn't blown the whistle
Or come out to say

Yeah, It was an inside job
And I was on the inside

I've tried sleeping with the wool pulled over my eyes
You can move on now there's nothing behind the door
But there's no relief your story just don't add up
You can move on now there's nothing behind the door
I've got questions is there anyone out there left to dial
You can move on now there's nothing behind the door

If you're going to lie to me
Please give me a story that in time I'll be able to forget

03  Hard Hitting Rock

Went to the record store
When I was in sixth grade
Took my lawn mowing money
And you know I bought The Wall
The day it came out and played it over and over
Until my Mom she saw the art
On the inside cover where the judge is an asshole
When she took it I fell apart
But then I found where she hid it and was back in business

You know I turned it up loud

It's been painful watching rock die
Year after year by degrees
I could bore you with the reasons why
Pick your poison MTV
Sony Napster the times
Clear Channel the internet and whatever I'm forgetting
So I went into hibernation
And had a near death experience that became this record

And now it's time to turn it up loud

Bring back the rock and roll
Hard hitting rock music clubs four bands deep
To rattle our bones and wake us from this sleep

It's time to turn it up loud

04  Out Here On Our Own

By now you've probably realized
You can be whoever you want to
So far from where you started
And no one knows you from Adam

You're out here on your own in the world
We're out here on our own in this world

With one life
This one shot to live it

What are you bringing to the party
It's time to let your light shine
Maybe dance a little wilder
Everyone's looking but no one cares

You're out here on your own in the world
We're out here on our own in this world

Friday night we're throwing ideas around
I think you're right
I should change my mind

You're out here on your own in the world
We're out here on our own in this world
You're out here on your own in the world
We're out here on our own in this world

05  Without The Faintest Idea

I keep having this dream that I'm in the money booth
On a game show with all those bills flying around
I'm stuffing what I can down the neck hole of my shirt
And I don't care that you're laughing

I wake up hit the ground and try to play along
Say something to myself make a couple calls
Walk out of the room there was something I needed
And now I'm standing here without the faintest idea

And I've always wondered when you jump into my mind
Are you thinking of me at that same time
If I close my eyes and send you all the love I've got
Can you feel it does it reach you somehow

Wake up hit the ground and try to play along
Say something to myself make a couple calls
Walk out of the room there was something I needed
And now I'm standing here without the faintest idea

And I keep falling away
I keep falling away from here
Somewhere

Wake up hit the ground and try to play along
Say something to myself make a couple calls
Walk out of the room there was something I needed
And now I'm standing here without the faintest idea
I don't know if it was important
I've got to clear my mind
And not panic in this situation
It's ok I'll just hang out for a while

06  Some Kind Of Mother

You've got to find some way to keep singing
I miss having you around
Your boat might be taking on water
They're whispering about you in town

I can't imagine what it's like
To spend time in your skin
To face the demons you fight
To ride your rollercoaster
And feel the floor drop out again

You've got to find some way to keep singing
You've got to come out the other side
And brother nothing will be sweeter
Than walking with you in that sunshine

I can't imagine what it's like
To spend time in your skin
To face the demons you fight
To be tied to the train tracks
And hear her coming round the bend

Mmmm yeah just saying
Don't give up now
We need you more than ever

I can't imagine what it's like
To spend time in your skin
To face the demons you fight
But you're some kind of mother
To take them on again

Mmmm yeah just saying
Don't give up now
We need you more than ever
Don't give up now
We need you more than ever

07  Listening To Zeppelin

Those afternoons I'd disappear into Houses of the Holy
In Radio Shack headphones
Laying around the bedroom floor
That music spoke directly to my soul

I got lost inside a rainbow
We've got to make it back by the moonrise
They're pushing sound like an airplane taking off

The piper's calling me I've got to follow
Feels like I'm missing something I never had
And the promise of this dream lights up the darkness
It would always lift me up and take me for a ride

It's calling me now

I got lost inside a rainbow
We've got to make it back by the moonrise
They're pushing sound like an airplane taking off

The piper's calling me I've got to follow
Feels like I'm missing something I never had
And the promise of this dream lights up the darkness
It would always lift me up and take me for a ride

It's calling me now
It's calling me now
It's calling me now

08  Shaking This Can Up

Okay let's review the plan
I'll get very small
You wait outside on the ledge
When the alarm goes off we're on

You should grab what feels right to you
Because we've only got a little time
It's lights out for this masquerade
And with the curtain coming down
You didn't want to leave the stage

And all those lies you told me
I'm still trying to figure them out
Were you really trying to make things better
Or were you just having fun shaking this can up

Let's not go down that street a second time
And see all those things again that we saw the first time
We can walk right past the flashing lights
And the giant inflatable man waving wildly around

And all those lies you told me
I'm still trying to figure them out
Were you really trying to make things better
Or were you just having fun
All those lies you told me
I'm still trying to figure them out
Were you really trying to make things better
Or were you just having fun shaking this can up

09  Build Something Golden

We could drive away from the city lights
Keep on going until we start to hear ourselves thinking
Staring up at more stars than we can count
I remember the first time I took on the big questions

Can you be sure that this is not a dream
Or that we're not just practicing for some greater performance
When the lights went down there were hands lifting me up
Never saw a face but you know I believe in the angels

We're not that different we've all got a lot to say
And if you've got the time I'll tell you how I came to feel this way
I want the playing fields level and the ceilings to go away
I want the race to be fair I want it all to start today

They're taking open minds and trying to force them closed
Let's not go back in time we've already been down that road
I want the playing fields level and the ceilings to go away
I want the race to be fair I want it all to start today

I'm reaching out
You may not recognize me
We've been holding on so closely
Now it's time to let go
And we could care more about each other
Take our blinders off
We're all in this thing together
Could build something golden with what we've got

We've come together now with one collective heart
And I turned my head to the sound of something that was missing
Something we found
Something that was lost along the way
That maybe now we won't be so quick to throw away

I'm reaching out
You may not recognize me
We've been holding on so closely
Now it's time to let go
And we could care more about each other
Take our blinders off
We're all in this thing together
Could build something golden with what we've got

Care more about each other
We could take our blinders off
We're all in this thing together
Could build something golden with what we've got

10  Your Arms Around Me

I don't care what you think
I'm going to believe
When I cross to the other side
You'll be waiting there for me
Everyone I've loved who helped me up along the way
Everyone I've loved will be waiting

You who went too soon
And you who told me just to be myself
And you who always had the time

Even when the world turns upside down
Or I can feel my heart breaking
I can hear you speak to me somehow
I can feel your arms around me

It's going to blow our minds
It might get loud
We'll all be there you know
And we won't believe it

Even when the world turns upside down
Or I can feel my heart breaking
I can hear you speak to me somehow
I can feel your arms around me

Even when the world turns upside down
Or I can feel my heart breaking
I can hear you speak to me somehow
I can feel your arms around me
All around me
All around me now
